" By 'eck! if thee turns that fan on it'll blow them golf balls all ower t'dale!"
One of eight turbines going up at the new wind farm at Knabs Ridge, built overlooking the Menwith Hill listening station in North Yorkshire. The knit-your-own-yogurt-whilst-tree-hugging-brigade are spoilt for choice now as to which one to complain about!
Eeeee, aint life reet grand!

They worry about the few birds that MIGHT collide with the spinning blades while ignoring the fact that thousands of birds, as well as all other life forms, are soaking up mercury and other poisons from the burning of coal. The other viable alternative, nuclear, has yet to deal with the mounting dangers of disposal and storage of spent fuel. In my not-so-humble opinion, wind power should be the de facto power source wherever it is possible.

Nice commentary ... and I agree with you and JPH, although I understand they need to be built a bit more efficient to be truly worth it. Still we will struggle to get nuclear power into our nuclear-free country so its this or those tidal power generators

Roger, JPH, your comments are spot on! - Personally, I think they are rather gracefull and not at all offensive however, the cynic in me wonders whether the physical, mental and emotional energy expended debating the pros and cons of this installation might not exceed it's output! Time will tell! :o)

Personally, I find these wind turbines therapeutic to watch - they fascinate me! As a matter of fact I resided at Menwith Hill peace camp in 1988 - when men were men and women were hardcore!! Ha!

It's a draughty spot up there isn't it! There are no campaigners there any more, just a solitary, dilapidated caravan daubed with 'ban the whale' or some such slogan. I think the residents must have become peaced off and left.

Yeah well that kind of activity doesn't happen these days - it was a hell hole tho....Hangman's Corner!

Here on the southern coast of Spain on the Costa del la Luz around the Cape Trafalgar area there is mile upon mile of these wind turbines.
I am no tree hugger....they are needed and they do make terrific photos but....I do wish they wouldn't place them in areas of outstanding natural beauty.
I've seen them do that both in my home county of Lancashire and also here in Spain.
