My entry for the countrypridefriday
"Última flor do Lácio, inculta e bela"
("Last flower of Latium, unenlightened and beautiful")
The term "Last flower of Latium, unenlightened and beautiful" is the first verse of a famous poem by Olavo Bilac, Brazilian poet who lived in the period 1865 to 1918. This verse is used to describe our language: the last flower is the Portuguese language, considered the last of the daughters of Latin. The term unenlightened is because of all those who abuse it (talking and writing wrong), but it remains beautiful.
It seems that Brazil is the only country in the world that has a museum dedicated to its own language. Can anybody tell me if I'm wrong?
