Little story about that sign:

When I first saw this sign of a food & grocery store I really had to laugh. Even though the word "Markt" is german, a lot of people here know what "Butt" means (we had Beavis & Butthead here too). So it's really a funny sign for a shop, which isn't really selling what the name of the shop says. I guess it's a (turkish?) name, the shop is in Berlin-Kreuzberg. For challenge45 I thought: now I must take a picture of the sign, I waited much too long thinking about it!

Kleine Story zu dem Schild:

Als ich das erste Mal dieses Schild einenes Lebensmittelladens sah, mußte ich lachen, denn auch hierzulande weiß man, was ein "Butt" ist, wenn man Beavis & Butthead gesehen hat (und das werden einige gewesen sein). Deshalb ist es wirklich lustig, daß genau das, was der Name des Ladens aussagt, drin wahrscheinlich gar nicht verkauft wird. Wahrscheinlicher ist wohl, daß es der Name des (türkischen?) Besitzers ist, er ist in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Für die challenge45 mußte ich das Foto dieses Schildes nun endlich machen, ich hatte schon ewig drüber nachgedacht!

Discovery: Are you sure that's not turkish? And if it's not turkish I really don't have an answer for this mystery. Why would anybody call his store like this?

what does butt mean in germany a cigarrette butt a shapely rear or the butt of someones jokes ?
BUTT is a very common name in Pakistan for people of Kashmiri descent who orignally were pandits or high caste brahmins before they became muslims (to practise equality in theorey) but even when the Butts converted to islam the brahmin priests kept a record of their lineage travelling from kashmir to pakistan to record births and deaths until politics interrupted their journeys.

Butt is only known as english word here. I think about 30-40% here know what it means (the harder variant, not the joke or cigarette). Your story about this word could mean that it's a Pakistan store. But the people who are working in the store are not looking like people from Pakistan. The mystery goes on... Ok, I must say that I haven't been inside yet. But it's like the making of the picture: I'm seldom in the area of this market.
