I created some small script with which you can show my images automatically on your X-Windows-background-screen, the root-window. What you can see here, is my working screen, showing a random image of my collection. This works for linux users only, I don't think that it will work for windows systems. It may be that it also works for Solaris or MacOS, but I'm not sure about that. You need at least GAWK and ImageMagick for it and a running X-Server, of course. The script can be found here:

It uses an automatically created URL list of all of my photos here from fotothing. You can replace this list, of course. It's a very small Bourne-Shell script. The images change every 5 to 12 minutes. You can also change the time between two pictures, but: please don't make it less than 5 minutes, I think this wouldn't be nice for this really nice service and we all want to use it furthermore. Enjoy!

I think there will be lots of such ideas, it started for me with the idea that I'd like to see all of my pictures as thumbnails on one picture:

I wanted to have this because 24 seems not enough because the scrolling is too slow. After some while I thought: hey, it would be cool to have it as background-switcher in random order. So I wrote another script which grabbed the url-list out of this web page. And after this I wrote the small script to really put them in the background. I don't know if this is the end now, but for me it's some kind of milestone. :)
