i like this effect.. I've been wondering about gimp Might have to check it out

That's no standard effect of gimp. It's a special addon, a script. You can extend the functionalities of the software by yourself. There are lots of extensions written by several people out there.

oh cool!! I know on Renderosity.com Gimp is used a lot.. even have a gallery dedicated to it and lots of talk of it on the forums with tips and links... might be worth peeking at it if you've the time

Because I use Linux it's the favourite graphics tool anyway. And I'm very familiar with it now.
