The bust of Georgina Pope which stands at the Valiants Memorial at Confederation Square. She served during the Boer War and the First World War. The bust is one of a group by artists Marlene Hilton Moore and John McEwen. The photo was taken during the pre-dawn light on location and has had the background removed for dramatic effect.

When I was photographing this bust, I had the distinct impression that Ms. Pope was bored with war and had come to think the war to end all wars was overdue to come to an end. As a nurse at field hospitals she likely became tired of mopping up after the heroes had done their work.
