Initially I had thought that this licence plate was so old it must have been expired, or that some vandal had sprayed acid on the plate when it was mounted on a previous automobile. The lettering was also a bit ambiguous when it came to deriving some meaning from it. My first impression was that it said "I With U" as in the name of a university or a declaration of the owners loyalties. On closer examination it may be possible that it says "1 With U" ie "One With You" perhaps a declaration of affection or love for a person or perhaps the car itself. Brand loyalty can be extreme in North America. The car itself was an older model but seemed not too badly maintained. I think I would have had a better opinion of it if the owner had the licence plate re-issued with the same number letter code, if he was that attached to it. A vintage licence plate is often best with a fresh coat of paint as is a vintage automobile. My apologies for mis-reading this at the time of taking the photograph.
