I googled the area for the height and I think it is 109 metres above sea level. It is a very dry part of the country often experiencing droughts

Yes this is the South Island. It is about one third from the bottom and virtually in the middle

I just imagine the wind whistling through the valley, where are the trees around the house to shelter it?

John this is a wool shed. It was so calm the day I was there but you are right I to can hear the wind whistling
