These beautiful woodcarvings from around 1100 A.D. are found on Urnes Stavchurch. You'll find both symbols from the ancient nordic mythology and from the Catholic christian church. The Bishops in Southern Europe never knew about these carvings, if they had, they would have been abondant.
Also, these rare church constructions only excist, and did excist in Norway. All boards are vertically mounted.
The Stavchurches are now part of a genuin Norwegian Culture Heritage.
