Bridge to nowhere...

I've just worked out it's a lock! Stunning piece of engineering. I now want to see it "in the flesh"! Where exactly is that?

Its norra lock itsa boat lift innit. It is near Falkirk and the pictures do not do it justice at all. It looks so futuristic with the hoops over the water. The visitor centre to the left of the picture is very interesting and goes into great detail about the whole project. Well worth a visit.

Fascinating! And quite beautiful too. The whole section of waterway is moved, complete with boat, so there must be some significantly clever watertight barriers at the end of the upper waterway and at the far end of the moveable sections. I'm surprised there's enough traffic to make it worthwhile constructing. Glad that the designer took the trouble to consider the aesthetics and not just the function; you don't see much decoration for its own sake nowadays.

Falkirk Wheel is a great place to visit, and such fun going up to the top in a boat.
