Farmer's Bridge Locks is part of a system of 24 locks which allows the Birmingham & Fazeley canal to rise 150 feet as it approaches the centre of Birmingham.
These grooves are a reminder of the days long gone, when the boats were hauled by ropes pulled by horses. Over many years, the ropes actually wore into the iron bridge rails - nearly cutting right through this one!

Yes it is Pam. I wonder just how many ropes must it have taken to make that groove over the years?
