No, Roger, you're not right. I'll try to explain. Jan 19 is orthodox church holiday (you know - most of russians are members of the Orthodox Church). I'm not sure how to translate this holiday's name to English. This holiday means that all water in all rivers and lakes in this day's midnight stand the holy water. So the people who wants to make their sins easy should swim in the ice-hole this midnight. Also this day usually pretend to be one of the coldest days in the winter (about -20..-25 degrees), but this year it was quite warm (-4) :) So, some people (women as well) are swimming this day. And nobody may catch a cold this night, because they are swimming in holy water at holy night ;)
