Dolmabahçe Palace
Turkey, Istanbul, Bosphorus, Sept. 2013

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolmabah%C3%A7e_Palace : Dolmabahçe Palace is located in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, on the European coastline of the Bosphorus strait, and served as the main administrative center of the Ottoman Empire from 1856 to 1922, apart from a 22-year interval (1887–1909) in which Yıldız Palace was used. Dolmabahçe Palace was ordered by the Empire's 31st Sultan, Abdülmecid I, and built between the years 1843 and 1856.

Peter many thanks for happy memories. It was 1994 when we visited this palace, so beautiful. I remember the chandelier in the Ambassadorial hall that was donated by our Queen Victoria.Somehow I had this palace mixed up with Topkapi Palace until your photograph jolted my memory. What a beautiful City this is

I wish this FT site would let me look at the original size. Wonderful architecture here that calls me to take a very close look at the minutia. The photo is excellent.

Thanks Larry.
Btw, when you click at the photo you get a larger size and clicking once again yields the original resolution.

Soumen, this palace is built along the Bosphorus indeed, but I don't think the man\statue is a statue. In the original size it looks like a sort of seamark.
