Mahamuni Buddha Temple

In the distance the Mahamuni Buddha image. Like in many religions, women and men are not treated equally in Buddhism. In this temple women are not allowed to come close to the Mahamuni Buddha.

The Mahamuni Buddha Temple is a Buddhist temple and major pilgrimage site, located southwest of Mandalay. The Mahamuni Buddha image (literal meaning: The Great Sage) is deified in this temple. Interesting information Peter. I'm wondering if you can think of one example of a dogmatic religion where the women are treated equal to men. I can't. Perhaps modern day Christianity comes closest....The Bible says that women should be quiet in the church, but in this country, some of the churches (Methodist and Presbyterians at least) are beginning to allow female preachers. What's the world coming to :-)))

Peter, When I was in a Buddhist Temple -We were told to keep our feet facing away from
Buddha, as I see in your Excellent Photo.In Orthodox Judaism, Women sit in a different
section than Men in Synagogue. In Reform Judaism, there are Female Rabbi's ;-)
