Village of Rock-Cut Dwellings
Turkey, Cappadocia, Göreme, Sept. 2013

From 1992 on, the government allowed people to stay in these houses only in the summer months. The rest of the year they have to move to the surrounding cities because of the low night temperatures.

Larry, at the site http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappadocia it is said that people of the villages at the heart of the Cappadocia Region carved out houses, churches and monasteries from the soft rocks of volcanic deposits.
