What can you say about this old building Peter? It seems to have fallen into dis-repair a little (the wood around the windows need to be painted). From a distance...very nice building, although the back section seems to have been added on after the original in 1912.
Larry, we saw this farmbuilding on a bike trip through the Beemster Polder and took a photo just because the name Leeghwater draw our eye. So I cannot say much about the building itself, but there is a lot to say about its name Leeghwater (1575-1650). He was a designer of windmills and hydraulic works, and played a major role in the drainage of the province of North-Holland, e.g. the Beemster Polder which is now on the UNESCO list of world heritage.
Elly, ik las in het rapport waarin de Beemsterpolder als werelderfgoed werd voorgedragen, dat dergelijke uitbouwen aan boerderijen de status van de bewoners dienden te verhogen!
Linny, the pyramid-shaped building at the back is the main part of this farmhouse. It is called a "stolpboerderij" very typical for the province of North Holland. The extension at the front was added at a later date to show that the the owners had gained in social status!
