Wonderful water plant and Nice shot, That's a kind of lotus. It's huge and solid leaves like a thorn under the leaf. In my country call "Amazon Water-platter or Amazon Lotus" The leaf diameter can reach up to2 meters...... ;))

Sider, the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam is one of the oldest botanical gardens of the world. It contains about 6000 plants and over 4.000 different species. Originally the Hortus was a medicinal herb garden, founded in 1638. Thanks to the VOC (United East Indian Company) the Hortus became larger and larger. It now contains many exotic plants and trees, and a lot of species from South America.

Doesn't have Geneva a botanical garden Ruth?
Jul 26 2008 13:46 GMT Papagena
You are right, Peter, but I am often too lazy to take the bus bringing me to the other
side of Lac Léman !!!! :-'(((
Jul 26 2008 13:56 GMT senna3 PRO
Well Ruth, we always visit the botanical garden of A'dam by bike, there and back 60 km. But then, a bike trip is much more enjoyable than a bus trip, I hate public transportation!

The great difference between Holland and region of Geneva is that you have more special cycle-ways. Here we have too much accidents of two-wheels engins !! Normally I am walking around but until botanic garden it's too far-away. !!

That is certainly true Ruth, Holland has become a very bicycle friendly country, even in A'dam bicycles have their own lanes!
