Oil mill "De Bonte Hen" ("The Motley Crew") anno 1693 (complete restoration in 1975)

Larrybenedict asked me about oil mills. The Dutch oil mills employ rape seed, groundnuts and linseed to get the oil, which was then used to produce paint. The mill in the picture is still in operation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Bonte_Hen,_Zaandam

	Jan 22 2011 17:43 GMT larrybenedict Thanks for that information about the oil and the paint. Any of those oils are nutritious for consuming, in fact, some of the very best. All relatively high in mono-unsaturated fatty acids. Rape seed oil is sold in the US as Canola oil, Flax seed oil (Linseed) oil is usually packaged in large Gelatin pills (hard to swallow for some people) as the richest plant source of Omega 3, And most nut oils are very good for the body (especially walnut oil). Coconut oil excluded because it is a highly saturated fat.

	Jan 22 2011 18:16 GMT senna3 Het is zeker de moeite waard Jannie. Kies wel een dag dat de wind uit het zuiden (ochtend) of het westen (middag) komt. Het merendeel van de molens zijn in bedrijf en keren hun wieken naar de kant waar de wind vandaan komt. Wij waren er in de namiddag met een noordenwind, dus konden vaak alleen foto's van de achterkant nemen!
