Netherlands, Lisse, Keukenhof, March 2007

My proverbmonday entry for 2 April 2007:
In the Keukenhof one shall never see that people are collecting flowers from the flowerbeds.
It is almost a contradiction with a well known Dutch proverb:
"Uit een niet omheinde tuin zijn de bloemen gauw geplukt" = "In an unfenced garden the flowers are easily picked"

Yes.....it is true....and this is not a place to pcik a flower....
people do repsect somethings sometimes.........
do you have fences on your gardens....and would passers by
pick your beautiful flowers...
we all have fences in SA.....but if there is a open garden...I do not know if
the people help themselves......!!!

Thank you John.
In my active life we used to visit regularly the Keukenhof with our foreign guests. Particularly our guests from East Europe were always surprised how disciplined all visitors were, even when it was crowded with tourists.

Lydia, you have to help me. My dictionary does not list "fritilaire". Is that the French name for this flower?

I agree Liz, this proverb is a bit pessimistic about people!
In the neighbourhood we live, the houses all have open gardens in front of the house and fenced backgardens. Seldom heard that flowers disappeared from the frontgarden! Perhaps that children sometimes want to surprise their mother with a nice bouquet, but shouldn't we praise that!
