What region of Switzerland is this style of architecture mostly found? Perhaps in a valley? High winds would surely rip the roof off with such overhangs? I like the architectural style.

Larry, originally this chalet stood in Burgdorf ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgdorf,_Switzerland ), a city in the valley (indeed) of Emmental ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmental ).
Its present location in Ballenberg is again in a valley near Brienz in Berner Oberland.
I think you find this typical chalet architecture throughout in Switzerland.

Inderdaad Elly. Ballenberg is wel wat grootschaliger dan Arnhem, maar de interieurs zijn in Arnhem weer gevarieerder!

I like the Switzerland houses with the little lace patterns and window boxes...
this little house is doing well for its age...:)

They know how to built houses in Switzerland Liz. Even for modern houses they use much better material than e.g in Holland!
