Het Kerkje aan de Zee (Little Church at the Sea) anno 1786
Netherlands, Urk, Febr. 2011

"Het Kerkje aan de Zee" is a symbol for the people of Urk.
It was built in 1600, but already after 30 years, by one of the many floodings of the island Urk, it got its own tiny island, 30 m. away from what was left of Urk. People could only reach the church by wading or by boat. In 1786 it was rebuilt at its present place as shown in the picture.

The church structure is in remarkably good condition to be 224 years in the weather. The Dutch maintain their building much better than we do here in the U.S. Looks as if you may have captured a stork on top of the chimney at the rear of the church.

Your photography is almost always worth a look at the larger size Peter. I am drawn to the minutia.
