Doris, this canal separates the Botanical garden from the center of the city. The Hortus Botanicus of Amsterdam has a long story indeed. It was founded in 1638 as a medicinal herb garden and it still has a herb garden. But nowadays it is especially famous for his collections of plants from South America and South Africa. The Victoria amazonica is a unique attraction when it blooms!
