Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque)
Turkey, Istanbul, Sept. 2013

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque is a historic mosque, popularly known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior.
It was built from 1609 to 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I. Its Külliye contains a tomb of the founder, a madrasah and a hospice. The Sultan Ahmed Mosque is still popularly used as a mosque: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultan_Ahmed_Mosque

15 Sept. we came back from our Turkey round trip, just in time for the mushrooms. This year it started quite late due to the dry summer months.

I can't help but wonder how this and many other structures were built so long ago....no building cranes. Can you imagine all the scaffolding!!!
