And achieved .. the mathematician in you !! I thought of mathematics or statistics as a career, a bit limited in NZ, .. but Banking captured me. My nephew though is a is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow and works on applied statistical problems mainly in the heath sector
Perhaps you did wise to choose Banking. Mathematics (including Statistics) has, at least at the universities, a difficult time, world wide. Politicians think of mathematics as a tool which is now ready for use and does not need further development. So as a researcher, as I was in my active life, you are required to finance your research group by externally paid projects and that is really hard! When I am right you live in Auckland. Auckland university has a very strong group in numerical mathematics, which was also my area of interest.
