Yes Roger, history intrigues me too. As to Bosra, its prosperity continued until the Ottoman times. After that it became hardly more than a village.

Syria is certainly worth a visit. Bosra is close to the Syria-Jordania border. Its highlight is the presumably best preserved Roman theater in existence (from the 2nd century, see http://www.fotothing.com/senna3/photo/fce8eb3d53a85a3d3c8bcaceef0d62e8/start=44). But Palmyra is of course a must when you visit Syria!!
