My thinking was along the same lines as Sylvia. Growing up in rural Kentucky, we were always glad to see these as it was a sign of Spring. Back then, we called them "March Flowers". I don't think I heard the word Daffodil until I was in college. Well, I may have, but if I did, I wouldn't have know what a person was talking about.
