the hijab from head to toe
my face my body
my shame
I need not show
yes I am a muslim
muslim woman
is all that you
need to know
in a muslim mans world
the laws of a muslim man
how can a woman
overthrow
the mullah was made
by god to protect
the rights of man
although
he was born of a woman
a mother that his kind
with fatwas
add to womanly woe
I dont selll my body
nor do I borrow
but yes morning to evening
for the sake of my children
I beg a futureless life forgo
with my open palms
these streets I plough
covered in the Hijab
my lifeless shadow
a today that will become
another today
tomorrow..
nothing less
nothing more
ebb and flow
this is not a penance
but my fate born
as a muslim woman
I undergo
