Artist: David Whittley. Born 1948. Having no formal art education has never been a problem for David Whittley and his work. He considers himself fortunate to have lived such a diverse and exciting life. The artist revels in life and the world around him, exploring it during a succession of professions; Merchant Navy, Royal Marines Commando, Commercial Diving, Engineering and construction. Throughout this time he learnt his craft by practising it. Experiences through life and humanity have made David Whittley what he is. He regards himself as a painter of social realism. David Whittley became fully professional in 1996. Working in oils, watercolour, acrylics, pencil and pen and ink. He paints a wide variety of subjects; portraits, figurative (period and contemporary) nudes, children, landscape, animals, still life and fantasy. Any of which can be incorporated into commissions. David Whittley's main stream of work is mural painting, internal and exterior, incorporating Trompe L'oeil. He has undertaken large scale projects of public art to small individual panels. Both commercially and privately.
