It was a celebration of the Otago Central Railway. The Vulcan Railcar, steam engines, and the other two classes of diesel locomotives that were present on the day, were also plying this line at the time. Hopefully Kevin and Shirley, these shots will compliment the ones you both took. These are also for deafcon1's viewing pleasure. :-)
This is the DJ class locomotive. It was built by the Mitsubishi company in Japan. It is powered by a Caterpillar V12 and has 6 traction motors that power it along. These locos were being phased out a little while before I left the railways. There are several left,such as this one, that have been restored and perform excursion duties most days. | |
