The building of the dam started in 1914 and finished in 1921.
Cyclopean concrete was used to build the dam and the external sides were covered in blocks of stone cut by stonemasons. Its dimensions are; 75 m high and more than 50 m wide at the base. The arch formed by the dam spans 130 m and its current water capacity is 86 Hm3. Its length affects 12 km of the Turon River.
A hydroelectric station was built at the base of the dam, the station was the first one to have a reversible circuit, it can stock water because its turbines can operate as pumps. By night pumping water to the man made lake at the top of the mountain, and by day releasing it back as power is needed.
