In botany speaks of plants "Autochthonous" when they originate in the place where they live, "Import" when they are naturalised in different places of their origin.
The "Carpobrotus edulis" (Fico of Ottentotti), is the original Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), imported in the Mediterranean, was naturalized and now has become a common element in our coastal landscape.
It is a plant with leaves fat-section triangular, smooth and wax appearance; has splashy flowers yellow, orange, lilac, the fruit is edible.
He whole sand dunes with rhizomes crawling and twisted.

Vulgar Italian name: Fico degli Ottentotti.
Scientific name: Carpobrotus edulis.
Family: Aizoaceae.
Origin: South Arica - Mediterranean's naturalized.
Resort: Cape Noli (SV) Italy.
Flowering: April - July.
