...................The Statue of the Madonna and the Child with the six bronze
angels and canopy.........................

The six bronze angels pulling aside the canopy, also bronze, to reveal the marble figure of the Madonna and the Child (were once at the lunette over the central portal now has been restored at the 1st papal palace). The Madonna, a marvellous piece of sculpture, was attributed to Andrea Pisano between 1325 and 1330.
