.....................EUR, District of Rome........................

EUR is a district in Rome that was built in the first years of the 1940s. It was built in a perfect fascist architectural style, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Fascism (Mussolini got the power in 1922, becoming Prime Minister).

The Palazzo della Civilta e del Lavoro is the EUR's most characteristic monument.

E. U. R. named "Esposizione Universale di Roma".
Now largely resiedential, it was originally built to host the World Exposition of 1942, which did not take place because of the World War ll.
Althoug it has a typical features of facist architecture, the quarter's urban plan is decisively more pleasant than other sprawling suburban developments which were built on the ourterskirts of Rome in the fifties and
sixties. Worth nothing, among other biuldings, are the Palazzo dei Congressi: the Palazzo della Civiltà e dell Lavoro; and the well-known Palazzo dello sport (1960) by Pier Luigi Nervi, a brilliantly conceived structure from which extends a beautiful artificial lake...>>>>>>
