Went to Mossyrock last weekend: Besides apples, Washington also produces wonderful flowers at the acres and acres of DeGoede's Bulb Farm, which we passed on the highway; tulips are their specialty, although these are... not tulips ;o)
We also stopped to investigate the neat rows of garlic bulbs being planted, actually high up on the mountain, quite a surprise. This kind gentleman is a logger by trade, (yes, he agreed to pose for this city girl) and explained the method, the growing season, and even let us tramp around and get our shoes covered in the soft dirt. Each row has exactly 1,000 bulbs lined up, there appeared to be hundreds of rows, but probably not that many; they will be harvested in spring and sold at a local roadside stand in order for his family to have extra income.
(If you go to Original View you can see the little bulbs better.)
