I once read that if North Florida were to return to nature, there would be more Magnolia and Sweet Gum trees than anything else. I don't know if the writer just made that up, or not, but there certainly is a lot of Magnolia trees scattered through the woods. They are full of blooms right now. Here is a bloom I shot this morning (out in the country).

Thank you Linny. I've never thought of the blooms being porcelain like, but now that you mention it...............

A magnificent blossom well representing its family !! In my area magnolias are only in private gardens or in our Botanic Garden !! And I discover from time to time new species as the magnolia grandiflora (like yours).....

Do you know that this flower is named after the French botanist Pierre Magnol??

Have a great weekend !!

Thank you Ruth. No, I didn't know that the Magnolia is named after Pierre Magnol. I also did not know that the flower is a Magnolia Grandiflora. I suppose I know less about the trees that are so common where i live, whereas, should I stumble upon a rare tree in my neighborhood, I would probably investigate it. Thank you for the information Ruth.

Thank you Barbara. I think I caught this particular flower at just the right time (prime). Another one close to it had already started turning brown (the petals).

Lovely flower and plant, mine didn't survive the severe weather (snow and frost) :(

Thanks Samir. Sometime we have frost in N. Florida, but I've only seen snow once in 39 years. I moved to Florida from Kentucky, so I understand about cold weather.

Thank you Reg. The tree was in the shade....maybe that's why I didn't get any glare with this one.
