Yesterday or the day before, I passed by this Camiellia tree and noticed it for the first time this year. I have several scattered about and have become so accustomed to seeing them, I don't notice how pretty they are all full of flowers. The sky was blue and the light caught some of the blooms just right for me to notice. I think the name of this particular one is "Professor Sargent" but I'm not sure. The flowers do not look like carnations, but that's the thought that they trigger, with so many petals. These flower throughout the winter season. The white ones are pretty too.

These are gorgeous flowers - a special treat in the winter. I've had no luck growing these myself, but can see lots of varieties at a local park's camellia house.

Barbara, I saw Camellias for the first time about 40 years ago. We did not have them in Kentucky (winters too cold). There are so many varieties now, my favorites, I do not have. The species grown here are the Camellia Japonica. I do not know if tea can be made from the leaves like the Camellia Sinensis.

Yes, Anna-Maria, I understood what you meant by "stand out". Red and Green being complimentary colors makes both the green and the red more intense. I'm guessing you may have meant the blue sky, which is always a nice back drop for anything.

Sylvia, the Camellia's are slow to grow before they get an extensive root system. The ones I have are probably at least 40 years old, so even when I cut them back severely, the grow right back. Probably more of a bush than a tree, some on the lawn are huge in diameter and about 15 feet tall. I do not have the patience to plant new ones and wait for them to grow large.
