Thank you Barbara. There is a fourth color available in nurseries now...more red. I don't have one 'yet.' This is actually my favorite of the four colors I've seen.

Love this beautiful flower, I like DOF method of photography.

Excellent work....The lighting around the tops of the flower is special as is the composition and the framing
Super......

Thanks Barb......blind luck. Shoot in the general direction 5 or 6 times and crop out the worst ones. :-)

exceptionally beautiful photos on your site lately.

i see with interest, how lately the concept of dof has been misinterpreted. in its origin it meant actually the opposite. depth of field meant what it says: sharpness, way into the background (tiefenschaerfe) now people use it to say the opposite . a background way out of focus.

Günter, thank you. Your thoughts about the DOF comments are the same as my thoughts. My understanding of DOF is that part (depth) of the photographic subject that is in focus. Perhaps folks are talking about the "boke" or "bokeh" when they mention DOF.

Brilliant flower portrait Larry, love the DOF too. I can't remember I have ever seen such a flower like this. It is very beautiful!!

Well done......great job.

Bea, the DOF is very shallow here and the boke is from the background across the street.

Thanks Glenn

This is a gorgeous flower - I love that sumptuous shade of red!

I agree with you Sylvia. This is the most "showy" of the five colors I've seen, but they are all pretty. (white, pink, lilac, fuschia, red)

Beautiful sharp image... great lack of DOF., I learned it the way you did.
We have been under a burn ban since before the 4th of July...many days above 100°. Really could use some rain.
Aug 07 2012 14:31 GMT larrybenedict
Jo, I would re-direct some of our rain to you if I could. Rain off and on all day yeasterday and last night. Some rain almost every day for the past three weeks, usually not all day though.

Beautiful show of it...I have two that my daddy gave to me that are close to this color....very slow growing trees...would love to have a purple one though....they are so pretty
Aug 07 2012 22:35 GMT larrybenedict
Nancy, I would plant more (have 3), but for the slow growth thing. My others are pink.
