wow, this is the best moon shot i have seen without telescope

on the page of the moon phase it says 92% waning gibbous

I guess it's still the same moon on there...

Thanks Günter. I don't know what I was thinking (I said it was waxing). Waning IS "going away". I have a big telescope which I haven't set up in 4 or 5 years, but I'm thinking about cleaning the mirrors on it and see if I can capture the moon at little bit better and maybe Jupiter, which is UP NOW. Thinking about it and doing it are two different things though. :-)

Thank you Sylvia. I recently purchased a Canon SX-40, which has 35X zoom. This was my first attempt with the full zoom (840mm equiv). I did use a tripod to steady the camera.

Jo, Nikon makes a really nice 18-200mm wide angle zoom for your camera. You will have to cough up the cost of your camera to get it though.

Thank you Peter. I sharpened, and framed it using Picasa3 (free online). I don't know how I mistakenly set the ISO to 400....a bit noisy.

Thank you Barbara. I was pleased with it too. My first "Moon Shot" with the new little point-n-shoot camera I got in the mail on Christmas Eve. I bought the camera for the long zoom (840mm equivalent. I had seen photos here on FT, shot by Bellavista, and was impressed with the quality of the photos. Bea has the SX30, which is the earlier version of the camera. I haven't been disappointed so far!

Thank you Bea. Yes, I like the camera....great image stabilizers and pretty good macro shots for a super zoom.. Had it not been for your great photos, I might have purchased something else, since I became interested in the Canon super zoom when you posted a really nice zoom shot of the London Eye ( some time ago ) cars from some distance away.
