Old as I am, I learned something this past week that I was really surprised to learn.....foxes sometimes sleep in trees. The tree in this photo is a "Live Oak" and the main trunk was growing at about a 60 degree angle, making it possible for the fox in the photo to climb it (I suppose). The Fox is about 10 meters (distance straight up) from the ground. Enlarge the photo if you have trouble seeing the Fox.
I shot the photo with my cell phone camera (only one I had with me), so it wasn't as sharp as I like. I sharpened the photo and framed it using Picasa3.

Thanks Linny. Don't know why I looked up at that particular time and saw this pretty animal. I think I must have been admiring the sprawling branches of the tree.

Larry....that's an amazing discovery......I didn't know fox would sleep in trees but I did see a fox eating corn out of a dish.....I always thought they were meat eaters.....

Thanks Jake. I know dogs like corn, but I never thought of a Fox eating it. Hope you and Linny had a nice Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanks for that link Barbara. I wonder what the concern is about foxes other than that they often have rabies. Well, there is the pet threat thing! England is known for its fox hunting with dogs in my part of the world. I've never heard of a fox hunt in the U.S.

Amazing catch, Larry. What the photo lacks in clarity, it makes up for in rarity value!
We used to have foxes visiting the garden, but our cats seem to have scared them away. Two friends regularly feed their foxes though.

We have foxes in our area, but I've never seen them sleeping up a tree. I learn something new every day. :-)

Harvey........Whenever you see a tree truck that isn't growing straight up, but rather a steep slant...look up! Never know what you might discover. Lots of "Live Oak" trees where I live, so I got lucky with a discovery.

Fox hunting is supposed to be banned now...but I'm sure it still goes on....cruel and totally unnecessary .....

Thanks G√ľnter. Yes we have (cell phone cameras), and from what I hear, Samsung smart phones can fire off 4 shots/second with no shutter lag.....Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note. I'm still using my old Droid X for most everything except Fotothing.

Great capture !
I wish you Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year !
Dec 22 2012 23:09 GMT larrybenedict
Thank you Dony. The tree was growing not straight up, but at an incline. This is how the fox climbed the tree.
