I don't actually know the name of this flowering tree, so I call it a Crab Apple. As you can see, Spanish Moss likes it for support. It has probably been blooming for weeks, but I only noticed it a few days ago. It is shaded by a big Sweet Gum tree and a large Hickory so it is easy to miss when lots of bushes and trees are also in bloom,

Isn't it pretty? I think you're probably right with your plant identification, too.....looks very much like apple blossom....long time before we see ours...it's blizzarding snow again this morning :(((

G√ľnter, I'm thinking the same thing. Apples do not naturally grow here, but I've seen fruit on Crabapple trees, just not this one.
One little "tidbit" on apples that I learned just a year or two ago from watching a documentary: Apple originated in Kazakhstan!
Evidently, gillions of different varieties. Guess you knew that!
