-And another picture from Venice. This might well be the most photographed place in Venice - the Rialto bridge.
It was completed in 1591 and is in fact remarkably similar to the wooden bridge it succeeded. The single-span engineering of the bridge was considered so audacious that architect Vincenzo Scamozzi predicted future ruin. (The wooden bridges preceeding the stone bridge had collapsed twice).
-One of the designers who competed for the design of the bridge was Michelangelo himself!
