My 2008 trip to Holland

VIANEN
City Hall - constructed in 1425

Vianen is a unique middle age “vesting” city, i.e. a city with ramparts, and a system of natural and man-made defences. In 1335 Vianen received city rights. The city inside the walls and moat was built in a strict geometric pattern of streets which is still visible to date. Many of the buildings constructed in the 1300, 1400 and 1500 are still intact. As a result, Vianen is a prime example of the growth of a typical Dutch “vesting” city. City hall, seen here, was built in 1425 and has been the seat of the Vianen municipal government ever since.

Difficult to imagine that this type of detail was done so far back in time. I read a book "Pillars of the Earth" about an architect in the um...14th century I believe. Now I can imagine what beautiful churches he must have been able to build.
