Royal Palace "Het Loo"
Wardrobe storage for carriage personnel.
As you walk into the courtyard past the visitor entrance, you see what could be thought of as a mansion. I was not overly impressed, but that changed to awe as I realized “that were just the stables and carriage house."
The "mansion" stables are a u-shaped building. Along the left side building is the stable with many horse stalls. The back part of the U is an exhibition of the carriages used over the years. The last wing of the building is an exhibit with the historical pictures and timeline of Dutch royal family travels and visits since 1907.
Until 1984, Palace Het Loo was in use as a summer retreat for the Dutch Royal family.
Between 1984 and 1991 the palace underwent extensive restorations and was re-opened as a Royal museum. A large mansion at the back of the grounds, not often seen by visitors, is the current home of Princess Margriet and her husband Pieter Van Vollenhoven.
