At this point The Red River and the Assiniboine River converge and become one, the Red River, as they have done for the last 10.000 years.
This juncture of the two rivers caused this location to become a trading post for ancient first nation peoples from as far away as the Dakota's.
The Red River comes up from the Dakota's to the south while the Assiniboine originates in the west. Native tribes used to paddle to here in their canoes to trade with each other. This junction is now known as The Forks.
