NATURE’S POWER ON DISPLAY AT WINNIPEG BEACH!

My son-in-law Frank at the ice wall. Frank recently had rotator-cuff surgery and hIs right arm is still in a sling for the next 4 months. Of course, a little sling does not deter a photographer:):)

On Saturday,April 17, 2010, my son-in-law Frank (frajmag on FT), and I, visited the little village of Winnipeg Beach, located on the west side of Lake Winnipeg, approximately 100 kilometers north of Winnipeg.
The village is currently the scene of enormous ice formations, which has created a wall of ice approximaetely 2 miles long and at points 25-30 meters high. On Good Friday, very strong north-easterly winds pushed up ice from Lake Winnipeg to the west shoreline, coming within metres of homes and cottages in some areas.
In some places, especially south of the village of Winnipeg Beach, the wall of ice has reached heights of almost 30 metres. The massive ice formations also blew in along the town’s marina and near lakefront homes and cottages in the northern part of the community.
According to residents, the last time anything comparable happened was 1966, and homeowners along the lake speculate they might not fully melt until well into summer.
