FT upload #6000

An late afternoon walk in the park on November 11.

ART OR WASTE OF MONEY?
Last year the City of Winnipeg commissioned this sculpture near one of the entrances of Assiniboine Park. This sculpture, created from a sort of steel and representing a polar iceberg, cost $850,000.00. Is it worth it?
By the way, on the other side from this view near the bottom I noticed rust!

I too have my doubts if a creation like this should cost so much money. I love art, but prices are very often out of proportion considering the hours of labour, the cost of materials and the cost of 'inspiration'...

Nice photo and interesting sculpture but not at that huge price :)

If I were the artist, I would be very happy I think. Being the tax-payer, I would think it rather expensive. The rust was no doubt added to make it more authentic looking.

definitely worth the money. it is a beautiful sculpture. it would even stand out if totally covered with rust.

I can't help but think that someone found out how much the budget was for the job and just billed that for whatever they came up with :(

I don't know how I feel about the expense but I get the impression that you think it was a waste.... which is probably true... but it is interesting nonetheless. Hugs.

Woohoo 6000 great pics!! Love the scuplture but I'm sure at half the price it would have been worth it and they could have spent the rest on helping make sure all the real icebergs don't melt!!
