I remember having cars like this, and they ran like they'd never quit. Of course, I wore them out, and they finally seemed like they wanted to quit, but that just led me to the next one. Neat shot ~ looks like a fun memory. =)
No, I don't think so. Photo was taken in 1991 and after the car-ferry at Mossman, we were warned that the road to Cape Trib was definately 4WD only; being young and therefore 10 ft tall & bulletproof, we ignored the warnings and continued, and made it to Cape Trib. We were the only non-4WD vehicle there when we arrived and attracted plenty of stares (though not from the locals!). Car lived a further 4 years too! ;-)
It must have still been unspoilt in those days... a very wet and humid patch of paradise, before all those evil real estate agents came...
I only went up to the Daintree a few months ago (for the first time) and felt rather claustrophobic. It felt like driving through a theme park. A 35km stretch of speed bumps every 100 metres or so and astronomical prices for a mouldy safari tent...
Up north on the Cape was great though. I drove my old Volvo down to Bloomfield and the black folks down there at the reservation had a bit of a laugh when I turned up...:-)
