Here's a fun story for you: Yesterday after work we headed out to the New Jersey shore for a bike ride at a state park. In the middle of Tom's River, New Jersey, I was on a three lane road, in the middle lane, when I pulled up to a red light next to a yellow Mustang GT convertible. We were both first in line, the Stang in the leftmost lane. Driving was a very pretty teenage girl with her scrawny male friend riding shotgun.
When the light turned, I got my minivan up to speed a little more quickly than usual, and over to my left I could hear the Mustang working a little harder to catch up. I kept accelerating and the gal finally kicked it in and passed me.
At the next light, she was again in the left lane, me in the middle, both of us behind a single car. I didn't look over, just nosed ahead slightly. When the light turned, I got on it again, plus I had the advantage that my lead car was a bit faster than her lead car, so I easily pulled ahead without trying very hard.
A moment later, the Mustang crossed over behind me and into the rightmost lane and the two youngsters passed me at a pretty good clip. I'd guess she had it up to 70 or so in a 45 or 50 MPH zone. Before the next light I could see a cop in a parking lot parallel to the street and he put the car into gear even before the Mustang passed him. The poor dummies got pulled over for trying to street race a minivan.
I remember being as cool as them, but now I'm a different kind of cool. B-)
