Some states do not require certification of any kind from prospective court reporters. A few states require the passing of a CSR exam. Most, however, require you to pass the RPR exam as given by the NCRA. Anyone who is a member of the NCRA is eligible to take the RPR exam. You don't even have to be enrolled in a court reporting school, despite what many programs will tell you. And if your state requires the RPR license to work, you don't even need to join NCRA to take the exam.
