Gnilsen's Fotothing

This hill is renowned for its distinctive hole piercing straight through the hillside. You really get the sense of man�s inferiority to nature when you walk through the 160 metre long, 35 metre high and 15-20 metre wide hole, created thousands of years ago by the sea�s erosion.

The legend of Torghatten Legend has it that this extraordinary hole in the rock was made by Hestmannen's arrow. - One fine evening Hestmannen caught sight of Lekam�ya and the seven sisters bathing in the sea near Landego. The sight alone of Lekam�ya awoke a flaming desire in Hestmannen, and he decided then and there to steal her away at midnight. He mounted his horse and galloped southwards, in full armour and with his cape j flung over his shoulder. The seven virgins noticed his approach and fled in full haste until they could run no more; they flung themselves down on the ground near Alstahaug. B
